A brutal war, an imprisoned princess torn between love and duty, and the desperate actions of a jealous rival. Such is the territory of Aida: on one hand, the grandest of grand operas, on the other, the simple story of a love triangle.
Aida showcases some of Verdi’s most extraordinary music, from heart-wrenching arias to monumental choruses, accompanied by thrilling orchestral colour.
Following on from the triumphant Opera in Concert performances of Manon Lescaut and Otello, Music Director Giordano Bellincampi once again shows his unparalleled genius at the helm of these Italian masterpieces, leading the APO and an exceptional cast of singers through Verdi’s exhilarating score.
Antonello Palombi sings Radamès, a role he has performed to acclaim at La Scala and The Metropolitan Opera. In the title role – returning to the APO after her radiant performance as Desdemona in Otello in 2016 – the stunning Maria Luigia Borsi.
There will be a pre-concert talk by Giordano Bellincampi at 6:45 pm in the Town Hall Concert Chamber.
