Dance with the devil and the APO
First performed in London’s Wigmore Hall in July 1920, Stravinsy's The Soldier’s Tale tells the story of a deserting soldier and the Devil who eventually possess his soul.
Accompanying the Soldier on his travels is a magic violin which he trades with the Devil, who promises to fulfil his every wish. Unsurprisingly, the devil has the last laugh and this is disturbingly heard in the last piece of the suite – the diabolical ‘Triumphal March of the Devil’.
Journey with the soldier and the APO on this tragedy depicted through jazz sounds, tango rhythms, marches, a waltz and a chorale
