Conductor Giordano Bellincampi
Piano Jayson Gillham
Haydn Symphony No.30
Beethoven Piano Concerto No.1
Mozart Symphony No.41, 'Jupiter'
Giordano Bellincampi takes us on a tour of the three composers at the very heart of the Classical tradition. From Haydn, the ‘Father of the Symphony’, a bright and bubbly early piece.
The Classical symphony reached its zenith in Mozart’s ‘Jupiter’, his final work in the genre an exuberant display of the composer’s unparalleled genius.
Between these symphonies, the talented young pianist Jayson Gillham, a prize-winner in the prestigious Leeds International Piano Competition, plays a concerto by a man who studied with both Mozart and Haydn. Beethoven would go on to turn music upside down, the start of which can be discerned in this amiable yet daring piece.
Pre-concert talk by Sam Girling at 6:45 pm in the concert chamber.
