Messiaen Turangalîla Symphony
Everything about the Turangalîla Symphony is exuberant, colourful and excessive. It is an extravagant celebration of love, with music of total exhilaration centred around a blissful movement called, beguilingly, The Garden of Love’s Sleep.
It requires a massive orchestra of over 100 musicians and two soloists – piano, and an electronic instrument called the ondes martenot. Joining the APO are musicians from the Australian National Academy of Music, innovative pianist Joanna MacGregor and the world’s finest ondes player, Cynthia Millar.
To open the concert, musical expert Graham Abbott will present an insightful and informative mini Unwrap Messiaen’s Turangalîla, which is sure to enrich your enjoyment of this monumental work.
The opportunity to experience a live concert performance of the Turangalîla Symphony is a stupendous event that may only come along once in a lifetime. It will be one of the true highlights of Auckland Arts Festival 2019.
Buy 4 or more tickets for this event to become an APO subscriber. You'll save at least 10% on public ticket prices and pay no booking fees.
