Featuring Stefan Dohr, Principal Horn Berlin Philharmonic
Dvořák Serenade for Winds
Martinů Nonet No.2
Isidora Žebeljan Needle Soup
After performing earlier in the week in The New Zealand Herald Premier Series: Bach & Brahms, Stefan Dohr lingers awhile at Waiheke Island. Joining him will be an ensemble of APO musicians.
Dvořák contributed to the long Czech tradition of wind ensemble music with his lovely Serenade. It’s always been a favourite.
Martinů’s Nonet is one of his last works. This bright, crisp piece looks back fondly and a bit wistfully to the Czech homeland from which he’d been exiled for decades.
Žebeljan's Needle Soup is a surrealistic fairy tale commissioned by the Berlin Philharmonic Foundation.
