There are as many shades of colour as there are tones of music and for this FREE concert series, the APO explore the way that composers illustrate themes of 'light' and 'dark' in music.
Bring along the whole whānau for this free community concert with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra at the Vodafone Events Centre.
For this hour-long concert of music, the APO spin the colour wheel and perform a selection of music that explores how concepts like ‘light’ and ‘dark’ are illustrated by some of the most well-known composers of the orchestral world. Repertoire includes Saint Saens' Danse Macabre, Prokofiev's: Lieutenant Kije - No. IV: Troika, excerpts from A Midsummer Night's Dream by Mendelssohn and Wagner's The Ride of the Valkyries.
The APO are proud to be performing the world premiere of a new work Ra te rongo kino by Dr Charles Royal (Marutūahu Ngāti Raukawa and Ngā Puhi), which has been especially composed for this concert, as a part of APO’s Te Arapūoru Community Commission.
