Conductor Giordano Bellincampi
Violin Kolja Blacher
Poul Ruders Light Overture
Nielsen Violin Concerto
Beethoven Symphony No.7
Beethoven’s lithe, muscular symphony is a powerhouse of a piece. The slow movement (so beautifully used in The King’s Speech) is tragic but consoling; the rest is a dance of life, at once joyous and unstoppably energetic.
Giordano Bellincampi continues his tour of the music of his greatest musical compatriot, conducting his long-time colleague, the superlative violinist Kolja Blacher, in Nielsen’s marvellous concerto.
One of Denmark’s finest living composers, Poul Ruders, writes that ‘light’ can mean ‘absence of darkness’ but also ‘a festive mood’, a thought radiantly summarised in his witty overture.
