Frances Moore APO Artistic Administrator. Frances Moore is an opera director, writer and the artistic administrator for the APO will be our guest. A graduate of Victoria University and Toi Whakaari The New Zealand Drama School, she first trained as a classical singer and graduated from the New Zealand School of Music with a first-class honours degree. A finalist in the prestigious Lexus Song Quest in 2007, she eventually followed her passion for opera into more theoretical realms, completing a Master of Music with Distinction in Musicology.
In 2012, she was the recipient of a Fulbright Scholarship, which allowed her to undertake research at New York University. This opportunity also allowed Frances to undertake her first experience of directing opera, where she worked as an assistant director for the Manhattan School of Music’s Summer Voice Programme.
Having returned home, she completed a Master of Theatre Arts (awarded with distinction) from Toi Whakaari The New Zealand Drama School, specialising in directing in 2015. Passionate about developing a contemporary opera scene in Aotearoa, along with producer Justin Gregory, Frances launched her own opera company UnstuckOpera in 2015 and its first venture, an Alex Taylor re-composition of Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, was declared a ‘triumph’ by The New Zealand Herald. This work has been presented at Te Uru Waitakere Contemporary Gallery, The Basement Theatre and most recently at Bats Theatre in Wellington – all to critical acclaim. The production went on to win the ‘Most Original Theatre Production’ Award at the 2017 Wellington Theatre Awards.
There will be music and a light lunch as usual
