Conductor Giordano Bellincampi
Piano Andrea Lam
Rossini The Thieving Magpie: Overture
Mozart Piano concerto No.17
Brahms Symphony No.4
For Brahms, the genre of the symphony was the centre of his artistic thought, and when he wrote his fourth and final one, he poured into it everything he knew from a lifetime in music. Now stormy, now mysterious, now high-spirited: look forward to a revelatory performance in the hands of Giordano Bellincampi.
Rossini’s opera about a larcenous bird opens with a deliciously sparkling overture. Dark, absurd and oddly based on a true story – this piece is a haunting reminder of the unfair assumptions we sometimes make on people based on their social class.
Sparkle aplenty in Mozart’s concerto too (particularly with the marvellous Australian pianist Andrea Lam), but at its heart this is a deeply felt romance.
Pre-concert talk by Amber Read at 6:45 pm in the Killarney Room at the Bruce Mason Centre.
Andrea Lam’s performance is supported by the Templar Family Office
