Auckland Philharmonia Orchestral Summer School 2024
15 – 19 January 2024
Eligibility Aspiring Orchestral Musicians and Singers in Years 7 – 13. For instrumentalists, we recommend applicants are at level Grade 5 or higher (or have equivalent experience).
Fee $425 + GST per participant for the whole week including lunches (Auckland Philharmonia and NZ Opera)
For the first time the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestral Summer School will be partnering with NZ Opera for an exciting joined adventure!
The Orchestral Summer School participants alongside Auckland Philharmonia musicians will present a programme of favourite classical repertoire as well as an arrangement of Lucy Mulgan’s children's opera Red! in collaboration with NZ Opera.
Auckland Philharmonia musicians and NZ Opera singers will mentor participants through lessons, workshops and rehearsals in this intensive five-day training programme before joining forces for the public Finale Concert that takes place in the Auckland Town Hall.
The 2024 Auckland Philharmonia Orchestral Summer School will take place at Westlake Girls’ High School in Takapuna, Auckland between Monday 15 January – Wednesday 17 January (9.30 – 4pm).
Simultaneously, NZ Opera’s Summer School will take place at the NZ Opera Studio, 5/69 Saint Georges Bay Road, Parnell, Auckland between Monday 15 January – Wednesday 17 January (9.30 – 4pm).
Singers and Instrumentalists will then work together on Thursday 18 January at Westlake Girls’ High School, followed by the Finale Concert on Friday 19 January at Auckland Town Hall.
If you play an orchestral instrument at Grade 5 or higher or sing and are in Years 7 to 13, the we would love for you to apply!
Applications for orchestral musicians are now closed. There are still some limited places available for singers. If interested, please apply no later than Friday 1 December.
