New Zealand born baritone Phillip Rhodes recently made a successful debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden as Escamillo Carmen.
Elsewhere in recent seasons he has performed the same role for Welsh National Opera, Baron Scarpia Tosca for the Nederlandse Reisopera, and Figaro The Marriage of Figaro, a role debut for which he was hailed as “outstanding” and “faultless”, Renato Un ballo in maschera and Alfio Cavalleria Rusticana for Opera North. Phillip was previously an Emerging Artist for New Zealand Opera, and with the company since then he has performed Baron Scarpia, Malatesta Don Pasquale, Marcello La Bohème and Giorgio Germont La Traviata.
