International New Zealand Bass Baritone, Paul Whelan, is a winner of the Cardiff Singer of the World Lieder Prize. Companies he has worked with include NZ Opera, ENO, Hamburg State Opera, Royal Opera House – Covent Garden, Edinburgh Festival, Qld Opera, Opera Norway, OA, Glyndebourne, Auckland Phil, Hawaii Opera, Boston Lyric Opera, Opera North, Norwegian Arctic Philharmonic Orchestra, Scottish Opera, Garsington Opera, Wigmore Hall and the Chátelet Theatre in Paris.
Conductors include Sir Simon Rattle, Yehudi Menuhin, Kent Nagano, Valery Gergiev and Vassily Sinaisky. Recordings include A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Philips), Kurt Weill’s Silber (BMG), the BBC Philharmonic (Chandos) and the BBC Scottish Symphony (Hyperion).
