A unique event in which pianists represent their schools in a solo piano recital competition. The prize money is split between the individual and his or her school to encourage both personal development and support for vibrant piano education programmes.
Established in 2008, the competition encourages excellence in piano playing and has become a rite of passage for many emerging young artists who have gone on to start international careers.
The competition is open to all secondary schools in the Auckland Region. Each school may nominate one student representative at Grade 8 level or above to compete for the prestigious title of Auckland's top secondary school pianist.
The competition is presented thanks to the generous support of Patron and competition founder Bryan Sayer, University of Auckland School of Music and Raye Freedman Arts Centre. Prize money is donated by Warren Sly of Sly's Pianos.
Applications for 2018 close at 5pm, Friday 14 September
