We dance, we play and we unite communities through the power of performance
The Auckland Dance Project is an exciting collaborative activity. The APO works with other performing arts organisations in the city and various Auckland schools to present an exciting music and dance event for schools and the wider community to enjoy.
The Auckland Dance Project began in 2011 with a performance of Sacre, danced to the full score of Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring.
School students aged 5-18 work together with the professional musicians of the APO along with performing arts professionals in a challenging, collaborative and supportive environment.
Since 2011 nearly 600 students from 17 Auckland schools across the city have been involved as well as tertiary dance students from the University of Auckland and UNITEC.
The APO has worked with Atamira Dance Company since 2014.
As part of the Auckland Arts Festival, the 2016 Auckland Dance Project was directed and choreographed by Moss Patterson. Creating an explosion of music and dance, students performed to the music of Gareth Farr’s Ruaumoko played by the APO.
