Born in the Black Forest, Germany, Matthias was attracted to the double bass because of its versatility and because it enabled him to play many different kinds of music. He studied Double Bass under Prof. Wolfgang Stert at the Hochschule fuer Musik in Freiburg and since then has been involved in performing a dizzying array of styles, including 80’s fusion, French musette, gypsy, latin, contemporary and ‘world’ music.
For several years he was a member of the ensemble ‘175 East,’ which performs contemporary music, and has recently released a CD of his own music entitled ‘Letters without Words.’
Matthias is a teacher of Alexander Technique and is currently studying Peter Grunwald’s Eyebody-method. In his spare time he enjoys getting into the outdoors through hiking and cycling.
