Kathryn completed her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees at the University of Melbourne in Australia. Scholarships from the Australian Elizabethan Theatre Trust and the Ian Potter Foundation enabled her to study at the Amsterdam Conservatorium with Harrie Starreveld and the Brabants Conservatorium with Leon Berendse. While living in Europe Kathryn also completed a postgraduate diploma in Sweden, studying with Andreas Blau from the Berlin Philharmonic.
Kathryn has worked with many orchestras including the Melbourne, Adelaide, and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras, the Adelaide Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria and Orkest van het Oosten in the Netherlands. She has performed in guest principal roles with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, the Auckland Philharmonia and the Australian Philharmonic Orchestra. Kathryn has appeared with ensembles in International Arts Festivals in Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane, Aberdeen and London.
A recipient of numerous awards, Kathryn has won prizes at the Leslie Barklamb Flute Competition and the Australian International Solo Flute Competition. She has recorded several solo and chamber music CDs with Move Records and her CD Unearthly Music for flute and piano has received frequent airplay internationally. Kathryn recently completed a PhD in music from the University of Adelaide and was awarded the Dean’s Commendation for Doctoral Thesis Excellence.
