Grace Leehan is currently in her last year of her Bachelor of Music degree in violin and viola performance at the University of Auckland, under the tutelage of Stephen Larsen. Grace has been one of the longest scholarship members of the Pettman National Junior Academy of Music. In 2016, she was awarded ‘Most Promising Canterbury Performer’ in the New Zealand National Concerto Competition, and in 2018 was a finalist in the Gilbert Glaussiuss Competition. She is a four-time national finalist of the NZCT Chamber Music Contest, where she was also a Joan Kerr Gold Award recipient, a Canterbury Regional Finals, and South Island Regional Finals winner. She has participated on both instruments in the Adam Summer School for Chamber Music since 2016. Her chamber music group, Chiaro Quartet, was Prize Winner of the 2017 University of Auckland Chamber Music Society Prize, and was a finalist in the 2017 Pettman/Royal Over-Seas League Chamber Music Competition. She has been involved with the NZSO National Youth Orchestra on both instruments since 2012, and has held notable positions such as Principal Viola. Other notable orchestral positions include Concertmaster of both the New Zealand Secondary Schools’ Symphony Orchestra, and the Christchurch Youth Chamber Orchestra, violist in the Auckland Youth Orchestra, and both violinist and violist in the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra.
