Chistopher Wench

Internationally acclaimed Australia Organist Christopher WRENCH is equally at home as soloist, chamber player and liturgical musician.  One of Australia's most respected organists, Wrench has performed at numerous festivals, including the Melbourne International Festival of Organ & Harpsichord, the Sydney Festival, Brisbane Baroque, the Brisbane Festival, the New England Bach Festival, Organs of the Ballarat Goldfields, and Mofo; and as concerto soloist with the Adelaide Chamber Orchestra, the Australian Chamber Orchestra, the Canberra Symphony Orchestra, Camerata of St John’s, the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, and the Queensland Youth Symphony Orchestra.

Annual international tours have seen Wrench performing in Austria, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, England (Bournemouth Festival, King's College Cambridge & Westminster Abbey), Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Norway and Sweden.  Wrench's recording of Bach’s Organ Sonatas at the Garnisons Kirke, Copenhagen received rave reviews from around the globe.  In 2014 Christopher Wrench was one of ‘five organists from five continents’ who performed the Silbermann 300th Anniversary Gala concert in Freiberg Cathedral, Saxony.

Born in Brisbane, Wrench is a graduate of the Queensland Conservatorium, Vienna Conservatorium and the Vienna University of Music.  International recognition followed performances at the Vienna Konzerthaus, St Stephen’s Cathedral (Vienna), Austrian Radio and major competitions in Melbourne (1st Prize, 1985), Dublin (2nd Prize), St Alban’s UK, Calgary and Odense DK (1st Prize).  Christopher Wrench is Director of Music at Christ Church St Lucia (Brisbane), and principal tutor at the ACT Organ School in Canberra.
