Richard Gill, AO, Founding Music Director and Conductor Emeritus of Victorian Opera, is one of Australia’s pre-eminent and most admired conductors and is internationally respected as a music educator. Posts held include Artistic Director of the Education Program for the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Artistic Director of OzOpera, Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the Canberra Symphony Orchestra, and Artistic Advisor for the Musica Viva Education program. Richard is currently Music Director of Sydney Chamber Choir, the inaugural King & Wood Mallesons Conservatorium Chair in Music Education, at the Conservatorium High School. Sydney, and director of the National Music Teacher Mentoring Program in Australia.
This year Richard returns to the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra for the Unwrap the Music series, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra for the Ears Wide Open series, the Taipei American School as the Joanna Nichols Performing Artist in Residence, and the Australian National Academy of Music, Melbourne.
Richard’s numerous accolades include an Order of Australia, the Bernard Heinze Award, and Honorary Doctorates from the Edith Cowan University, Western Australia, and the Australian Catholic University.
