Composer in Residence
Jack Body
Jack Body, versatile and highly acclaimed composer and Associate Professor at the New Zealand School of Music, has been appointed the APO’s new Composer-in-Residence, for a two-year term commencing at the beginning of 2012.
A fascination with the music and cultures of Asia, particularly
Indonesia, is a strong influence on his music. He has been commissioned
by the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, the NZ String Quartet, the New
Zealand Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, and
many other groups, and has written three works for the Kronos Quartet.
In 1999 he was awarded an OMNZ for his services to music, to education
and to photography, and in 2004 he was honoured by the Arts Foundation
of New Zealand as a laureate.
